VCIC-Lite: Less work, more fulfilling

"We have almost 30 teams interested in competing and I would welcome receiving the business plans as soon as possible... I was expecting 15 or so. Thank goodness for VCIC Lite." John Wolff, Columbia Business School

We created this round in response to hearing about schools using written applications to screen teams. VCIC is designed to emulate a real-life VC experience. Written applications don't do that!

Alterntaively, VCIC-Lite is a format in which you can observe and judge a team's live performance and interactions. Here's how it works:

  • Organizers email HQ to request VC-backable business plans (subject to availability).
  • You distribute business plans to teams 48 hours prior to the "event."
  • The event: a series of 8-minute pitch/Q&A session for each team.
    • Require teams to bring copies of written deliverables. No PPT.
    • 5 minutes to "pitch" the investment opportunity.
    • 3 minutes Q&A from organizers/judges.
  • Use VCIC-Lite Judging Form.doc.
    • Note importance of coachability and presentation skills.
